Pardon Our Progress

You’re not too far gone. You’re just under construction.

Review: The Book on Mental Toughness By: Andy Frisella

Why I Chose This Book

Honestly? My recovery didn’t completely go the way I wanted. Depression had gotten a hold of me and, while I recovered a lot of physical strength and toughness, my mind was suffering.

I first stumbled across the program while looking for a workout and diet. I had reached 317 lbs and hated myself every time I looked in a mirror. I felt so bad for my beautiful little wife.

The Book On Mental Toughness is the book that teaches you the steps and “rules” of the 75 Hard Program. A 75 Day mentally stressful, physically demanding program to absolutely change your life.

People told me it was too hard. They said the program was for people who were too serious about getting fit and most people told me they would never even try it.

That intrigued me. So I dug deeper.

Andy doesn’t help you feel better about where you are. He puts the responsibility directly where it belongs. On you. And then informs you, not so graciously, that you’re the only one who can fix it. And that its going to be difficult. Hard even.

Main Takeaways

Stop looking for the easiest ways to get what you’re after. Sometimes it’s just going to take hard work.

So many times in life we know what we want but we look for the easiest path to get there. And, sadly, the easiest path is usually the first one to fail. That’s why it’s easy. Because it doesn’t work.

Things in life that are worth having require hard work. And being in shape and staying healthy are worth the struggle. Time to get off the couch and get to work.

How This Book Reaches Me

When I got out of the hospital, I was broken, depressed, suicidal and had never felt so lonely and pathetic in my life.

I guess you could sum it up on its most basic level by saying “It was hard.”

It’s been 7 years since I left Grandview Hospital. I’ve outlived my 5 year life expectancy by 2 years. I was tired of failing and needed something that would just work. It didn’t have to be easy anymore.

Even the healthiest people I know said that this program was so hard that they weren’t even considering it. So I jumped in with both feet.

At the time of writing this post, I am on day 46 of 75 Hard, the program that this book is about. My life has already changed both mentally and physically and I am incredibly proud of my progress.

By the way, my family is as well.

Would I Recommend This Book?

10/10 Yes I would.

Not to sound insulting but it is an easy read. Andy wrote this book more like a long social media post than a novel. And that makes it a quick and easy read.

The book is demanding and lays down a clear path for you to design and follow to reach your goals and restart your life.

The only downside, for me at least, is the language. Lots of F bombs and more. Not my cup of tea but, still, I’m giving the book a 10/10 because it works. Even with the silly amount of language.

Thanks for reading!
